Blepharoplasty Helps Patients Appear More Rested and Energized
Patients with sagging skin or excess tissue on their upper or lower eyelids may suffer from a prematurely aged appearance and in some cases, impaired vision. Dr. John F. Zavell can perform a blepharoplasty for both men and women to help them achieve a more rejuvenated look. Our Toledo, OH, practice believes that every patient deserves to look as young as they feel, and we tailor each procedure to complement your facial features and achieve natural-looking results.
What Is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty, commonly known as eyelid surgery, helps correct bags beneath the eyes and sagging upper eyelids that occur as a natural result of aging. During the surgery, Dr. Zavell will remove excess skin and fat pockets from the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both to tighten the area around your eyes and rejuvenate your appearance.
Upper Eyelid Surgery vs. Lower Eyelid Surgery
Based on your specific concerns and desired outcomes, Dr. Zavell will recommend a procedure to address either the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.
If you have sagging upper eyelids that make you look tired, or have excess skin that limits your field of vision, you may be a good candidate for upper eyelid blepharoplasty. This procedure will remove sagging skin, tighten your eyelids, and give you an overall younger appearance. Patients who have limited vision as a result of sagging skin on their eyelids can restore full functionality following blepharoplasty.
During surgery, Dr. Zavell will make the necessary incisions in the natural creases of your upper eyelids. This allows him to achieve dramatic results with virtually no visible scarring. Once he trims away excess skin, the remaining tissue is lifted for a more youthful look.
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty addresses under-eye bags and puffiness by removing fat deposits that make you look tired or aged. During this procedure, you can choose to undergo a fat graft to transfer fat deposits to areas around your eyes that have developed a sunken, aged look. Dr. Zavell can create an incision inside the eyelid or a standard outside incision.
If you have less pronounced under-eye bags, an incision inside the eyelid allows Dr. Zavell to remove fat deposits. This technique only requires several tiny incisions and results in no visible scarring. If your cosmetic concerns require skin to be removed, Dr. Zavell will likely perform an outside lower eyelid surgery. This procedure can correct sagging skin through a small incision made below the lower lashes.
Our Personalized Approach
From your initial consultation to your recovery, Dr. Zavell will discuss your concerns and desired outcomes with you and personalize your procedure to best address your needs. He will explain what to expect as you heal and how you can prolong your surgery results.
We believe every patient deserves to look as young as they feel, and tailor each procedure to complement your facial features.
This procedure is a popular facial cosmetic surgery among both men and women since it provides dramatic results in one low-risk, minimally invasive surgery. Prior to your procedure, we will review your medical history with you and assess the health of your eyes to ensure that you can safely undergo blepharoplasty.
Is Blepharoplasty Covered by Insurance?
Although most cosmetic procedures are considered elective surgeries and are not covered by insurance, in certain circumstances, blepharoplasty can qualify for some coverage. If you are unable to see correctly as a result of sagging upper eyelids, our staff can speak to your insurance provider to find out if you qualify for coverage.
