What Is Blepharoplasty?

Upper Eyelid Surgery vs. Lower Eyelid Surgery
Based on your specific concerns and desired outcomes, Dr. Zavell will recommend a procedure to address either the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both.
Upper Eyelid
If you have sagging upper eyelids that make you look tired, or have excess skin that limits your field of vision, you may be a good candidate for upper eyelid blepharoplasty. This procedure will remove sagging skin, tighten your eyelids, and give you an overall younger appearance. Patients who have limited vision as a result of sagging skin on their eyelids can restore full functionality following blepharoplasty.
During surgery, Dr. Zavell will make the necessary incisions in the natural creases of your upper eyelids. This allows him to achieve dramatic results with virtually no visible scarring. Once he trims away excess skin, the remaining tissue is lifted for a more youthful look.
Lower Eyelid
Lower eyelid blepharoplasty addresses under-eye bags and puffiness by removing fat deposits that make you look tired or aged. During this procedure, you can choose to undergo a fat graft to transfer fat deposits to areas around your eyes that have developed a sunken, aged look. Dr. Zavell can create an incision inside the eyelid or a standard outside incision.
If you have less pronounced under-eye bags, an incision inside the eyelid allows Dr. Zavell to remove fat deposits. This technique only requires several tiny incisions and results in no visible scarring. If your cosmetic concerns require skin to be removed, Dr. Zavell will likely perform an outside lower eyelid surgery. This procedure can correct sagging skin through a small incision made below the lower lashes.
